New Amsterdam, 1686. The witch Eva abducts Dawn from her wedding ceremony to William and intends to sacrifice her in a Satanic ceremony. The former slave Henry breaks in and banishes Eva to Hell, not before she promises to return and seek revenge. In present-day New York, Eva returns as a New Wave punkette. She kills all in her way in order to obtain the Devil’s Ring from street minister Henry James and then begins to claim souls with it. Reporter Dawn Phillips joins forces with investigating detective Billy to solve the murders. During the investigation, they come to understand that they are the reincarnations of the people from 1686 and that Eva has returned to complete her sacrifice.
"Have you ever watched a movie that was so insane and weird that it had you wondering if it was even from this world at all? I have. That movie's name is Necropolis, and it had me checking my dollar bill to see if George Washington's mug was still on it or if I had, in fact, went to another dimension via some Twillight Zone space/time warp. Total batshit crazy fun, I don't even know where to begin.
Should I start off by telling you that it has a six breasted witch that lets zombies suckle ecto-plasm from her teats? Maybe I should mention that the "hero" of the film is an African American priest that operates out of what looks like a janitors closet and is convinced he can remember all his past lives (since when do Christians believe in past lives!?), including the ones where he was a woman. He battles evil with makeshift crosses (see sticks tied together with twine) and good old gasoline. Or I could mention the uber substellar acting, where the players sometimes accidently glimpse straight at the camera, and mutter lines so bad they have to be ad lib?
I'm convinced this film is from some weird universe where movies like Street Trash earn academy rewards and the movie C.H.U.D. is considered a docudrama.
The plot really has nothing to do with the title of the film; there is no city of the dead, only a witch who sucks slime out of people's heads and pursues some devil ring the entire film. Why? Well, I'm not really even sure. I don't even know how she survived getting stabbed in the begining, where a mob breaks up her Satan worshiping gig. The film doesn't bother with petty things, like explaination, so flash cut to the very next scene and she's riding a motorcycle and dancing to trancy 80's disco beats, hypnotizing people into commiting suicide and making out with her.
Somewhere, hidden in the subtext of this film, lies the answer to everything. Just have to keep looking and digging deeper. Maybe it has something to do with ecto-plasm leaking boobs....."
