"Intimate Parts" is an ironic melodrama about middle-class Muscovites. Each of them has a personal secret, hidden from others - the "intimate part". The main character, a scandalous photographer Ivan, juxtaposes himself to others. He is convinced that people are born to be happy; and happiness is freedom to stay true to one's self. The real question is: how safe is it to let your inner self out?

Directed by Natasha Merkulova and Alexey Chupov, Intimie mesta /Intimate Parts is an erotic drama debut feature set in contemporary Moscow which investigates with irony and humour the way modern people deal with intimate secrets. The script written by the directors themselves is a multilinear plot involving middle-aged Russians as they try to deal with universal questions such as happiness, fulfillment, secrecy and sex.

There is a new order in Russia and a new urban prosperity, but when it comes to sex, just how much has changed? This is the question posed by a network of interlocking stories intent on exploring the link between what's between Russia's legs and what's between its collective ears. A photographer with a specialty for close-ups of genitalia preaches free love but practices something rather different, a morals campaigner preaches censorship before going home to work her vibrator overtime, a married man tries to get out of his sexual rut - all these characters circle around Ivan, a sex therapist with some significant issues of his own. As smart as it is funny as it is provocative.
