Man-out-of-time Count Cagliostro, dressed to the 19th-century gills, tools into town in a horse-drawn wagon attended by a grim reaper. This occult villain stands in stark contrast to the futuristic laboratory of his new partner-in-crime Dr. Raymond. Together they seek a uranium-like ore, and to harvest the deadly fuel Cagliostro uses a magic spell from an ancient Egyptian scroll to revive the corpses of those who died in the silver mines. The doctor implants robotic control boxes in their brains, and immune to the dirty radiation around them, they get to pickin' and shovellin.' With the police useless, the theft of this zombie workforce is investigated by a 10-year old street urchin and his shoe-shine man compadre, who is luckily good friends with veteran momia fighter Mil Mascaras (Thousand Masks). In this film Mil operates some sort of YWCA where fellow enmascarados Rayo de Jalisco and Blue Angel work out with bikini clad go-go girls all day. It takes the entire lot of them to discover the ghoulish operation of Cagliostro.

The gymnasium HQ of the lucha-heroes is just... what? A miracle? And the saving grace of this film. No matter what level of threat is going on - zombies kidnapping women and kids, atom bombs about to be unleashed - nothing stops the wrestlers from supervising the girls' workouts. Every time they cut back to this setting, it's pure solid gold. Mil is the alpha male this time, and wearing a leopardskin bomber jacket how could he not be? Refusing to be outdone in his graphic-deco sequined hood, this is probably Rayo de Jalisco's best film appearance, too. A legend and folk hero in the ring, he was known for innovative head-butts, and uses them plenty both in a good tag team match and later on the undead.
